Melissa Smithmier

After joining The Barnett Group in 2005, Melissa, a Group Benefits Disability Specialist, quickly grew to be a great asset as a partner and director of sales and marketing. In addition to her sales and marketing responsibilities, she also is responsible for group benefits planning.  

She completed Southern Illinois University’s health care management program and has been dedicated to the medical benefits industry ever since. Melissa continues to look for ways to utilize her expertise outside the office and has served as a board member for the Greater Memphis Employee Benefits Council and the Mid-South Medical Group Managers Association. She is also a member of the Mid-South Association of Health Underwriters.

In her community, Melissa served as the president of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, and during that time, she was given the key to the city from the mayor of the City of Lakeland for revitalizing the dormant chamber. She was also a board member for the City of Lakeland Economic Development Commission. 

She is currently a board member of the City of Lakeland Design Review Commission, a member of the LeBonheur Club and board member for the The Marguerite Piazza Gala.

Melissa spends much of her free time cheering for Ole Miss football, cooking and being outdoors.
