Founder and President
After founding Barnett Benefits in 1987, Ed has grown The Barnett Group to 14 employees. The Barnett Group team facilitates coverage for more than 75,000 client lives. In addition to The Barnett Group, Ed founded Mid-South Administrative Group, LLC; a firm that designed and administered self-funded healthcare benefits for employers in the Memphis area. This firm was so successful that Cigna HealthCare acquired the company in 2006. Ed is also a partner of Barnett Realty Group.
Ed is actively involved in the Memphis community, having served on numerous boards such as Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South, Methodist Healthcare Foundation and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of the Mid-South. He is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown, a board member for Magna Bank, and is actively involved with Church Health. Additionally, Ed is a member of the state of Tennessee’s Agent/Broker Technical Advisory Group.
In 2001, Ed assisted in the establishment of the Methodist Healthcare Golf Classic. He has faithfully supported the Methodist Hospice Residence, and led the Germantown Historic Church restoration campaign on Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital’s campus. In 2013, Ed became a Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist®, and was also an honored recipient of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare’s Living Award for Inspiration in Faith and Health.
A member of the American Association of Life Underwriters, he maintains a commitment to continuing his education and knowledge in the industry. Ed is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, and has received their prestigious Top of the Table award for 14 years. Additionally, Ed has received the Order of Excalibur award from AXA Advisors, the organization’s highest award, and is also recognized in the AXA Advisors Hall of Fame.
