Partner and Director of Business Development
Joel joined The Barnett Group in 2008 and brings extensive experience and knowledge to the company, where he is responsible for sales, implementation and ongoing support for the prescription benefit management and pharmacy programs. He is a certified public accountant and also a partner at the firm.
A graduate of the University of North Alabama, Joel gained much of his expertise in the medical benefits industry while leading the independent audit process for Ernst & Whinney’s (Young) health care practice in the Mid-South. Following his success at the company, Joel was elected chief financial officer at Accredo Health Group, Inc. Under Joel’s leadership, and before the publicly held company was sold to Medco Health Solutions, Inc. in 2005, Accredo grew from 50 employees to more than 2,500 in a six-year time frame and expanded to more than 40 locations across the country.
His knowledge and commitment to the industry is valued across the community. Joel has served as director of Bostwick Laboratories, Inc., Pediatric Service of America, Inc. and chairman of the audit and finance committee for The Regional Medical Center at Memphis. He also served as a member of The MED Task Force from January to July in 2010.
Joel continues to devote time as director and chairman of the audit committee at Aldagen, Inc., chairman of the board at Trust One Bank, board director at Veritas Collaborative, board member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South and board director at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
Included among his professional achievements are two prestigious awards. He received the Institutional Investor Magazine Award for “The Best CFO” for health care and technology in 2005 and the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2010.
When Joel isn’t managing important prescription and pharmacy programs for clients or volunteering in his community, he’s spending time golfing, reading, hunting and fishing.
