For 16 years, Wes Barnett has played an integral part in guiding TBG clients through the complex employee benefits plan process. As director of client development for The Barnett Group, he uniquely combines his extroverted nature and people skills with his extensive knowledge of the health care industry to better serve and educate his clients. When he’s not putting on the green or jamming out to Tedeschi Truck Band in his car, you’ll find him working hard to keep his clients happy and informed.
Get to know Wes in this month’s employee spotlight.
What do you enjoy most about employee benefits?
The health care industry is continuously changing, from insurance costs to changes in regulation to shifts in the local market. There’s constantly a load of information to stay on top of, which can be very time-consuming and, at times, complicated for our clients to handle alone. I enjoy working with them to navigate through the murky waters of health care and find the best solutions that fit their team’s needs.
What advice would you give to a young professional in your field?
There are people you meet that you think will do business with you but then they won’t. Then there are people you never imagined doing business with that will do business with you.
How do you describe your work to a child?
I’ve tried many times with my nine- and six-year-old daughters. They still don’t get it!
What teams will we find you rooting for?
The New York Giants, and of course the Ole Miss Rebels. Hotty Toddy!
Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
Scotland, because of the golf. Duh.
